Venue and Date

 

The 6th General Assembly of Asian Seismological Commission (ASC 2006) and the Symposium on Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation will be held at Siam City Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand, from 7 to 10 November 2006.

The official language of the General Assembly is English. Presentation and printed material will all be in English

 

Registration Desk

 

All pre-registered participants are invited to contact the Registration Desk for receiving name badges, bags and related materials at the following period times : -

6 November 2006          09.00 – 18.00    at the Secretariat Room

7 November 2006          08.00 – 09.00    in front of Conference Room 1

8 November 2006          08.00 – 12.00    at the Secretariat Room

Onsite registration participants are also invited to contact the Registration Desk to make payment for registration fee before receiving name badges, bags and related materials at the same period above.

 

Speaker Preparation Room

 

All speakers are invited to make pre-arrangements and upload their Power Point oral presentations at a Speaker Preparation Room (Kornkamol Room, 2nd Floor) in advance.

 

Exhibition

 

The Exhibitions of ASC 2006 will be held at the exhibition area opposite to the Kamolthip Ballroom. (See the ASC 2006 General Assembly Floor Plan). Kinemetrics, Port Authority of Thailand and other exhibitors will demonstrate their state-of-the-art production, as well as activities of their organizations. All participants, users and interesting investors are invited to the Exhibition, which will be open during 3 days from 7 to 9 November 2006.

 

Information for Oral Presentation

 

Final program order cannot be changed except under unexpected situation. Request for changes will be approved by the convenor of sessions. The authors whose names are not appeared in the program schedule during November 7 – 8, 2006 but reserved in the list of authors intending to make presentation are invited to contact the convenor of sessions in advance to set schedule time of their oral presentation on November 9, 2006 at Room No.2. 

 

Standard projection equipment including personal computer or notebook, overhead projector or slide projector (upon request), screen and electric pointer will be prepared for all sessions in meeting rooms. Additional equipment unmentioned above may be ordered for participants’ presentation based on fee payment before use. Please submit your power point presentation to the Technical Service Team one day before your presentation at Speaker Preparation Room. 

 

Each presentation will be allocated time for 15 minutes. To smoothly conduct the sessions, presenter is requested to keep his/her presentation finished within 12 minutes and allow 3 minutes for question and comment.

 

Information for Poster Presentation

 

Each poster presentation is provided within one board surface area of 190 cm high and 70 cm wide (i.e. 12 sheets of A4) or 90 cm high and 60 cm wide (i.e.9 sheets of A4). Thumbacks, tapes and scissors will be available. Individuals are encouraged to put up poster between 8.30 hr. to 9.00 hr. on November 9, 2006 at Room 1 (Kamolthip-III). All presenters should be at their poster boards during the poster session hours of 08.30-10.30 hrs.

All poster presenters are requested to contact LOC at Secretariat Room at least one day before presentation. Facilities for duplication of poster are not available at the Symposium. The authors have to hand-carry their posters from their home countries.

 

Information for full paper

 

All participants whose paper abstracts are accepted to present either in oral or poster presentation at the Symposium are requested to send their full paper to ASC by Email to asc2006_loc@yahoo.com not later than January 31, 2007. The ASC will compile all the papers and make them available in CD ROM for participants before the next ASC Meeting. 

 

Lunches and Breaks

 

Lunches and coffee/tea breaks will be arranged for all registered participants during  7 – 9 November 2006 at Siam City Hotel. 

 

Name Badges

 

All participants are requested to wear their name badges while attending the General Assembly and Symposium’s sessions, lunches and social events. 

 

Internet Connection

 

The LOC will provide the internet connection for all participants in the LOC Secretariat Room (Kingkamol room) during 7 – 9 November 2006 at Siam City Hotel.

 

Insurance

The organizer will neither be responsible for accidents, loss of valuable belongings nor cost of travel and medical expenses of the participants during the conference. All participants and accompanying persons should make their own arrangements for health and travel insurance.

 

Climate and Clothing

 

Temperature during November of Thailand is as below :

Currency

 

Thai currency is the Baht. 1 USD is approximately 37 Baht. Information on the day-to-day exchange rates can be found at: http://www.bot.or.th. Foreign currency can be exchanged at International Airport upon arrival and in other banks located in Bangkok. Hotels and stores also accept major currencies at reasonable rates of exchange. Major credit cards are acceptable by most local, commercial establishments.

 

Airport Tax

 

An airport tax of baht 500 per person is payable by all passengers departure from Suvanabhumi International Airport.

  

Travel Information to and from the Airport

 

All participants will arrive Bangkok at the Suvanabhumi Airport, a new international airport of Thailand, just formally opened for operation on 28 September 2006. Transportation between the airport and the hotel has to be made by participants themselves.

 

To facilitate more convenience for participants, LOC has appointed a travel agency, “Seven Days Relax Tour & Travelto take care the transfer between the Suvanabhumi Airport and the participants’ hotels with the 1st class air-conditioned vans. The fee rates which cover petrol, chauffeur, express way toll and passengers’ lives insurance are as below :

The vans will leave either the airport or hotels every half an hour all day. Airport taxies are also available with reasonable prices. For whom staying at the Siam City Hotel, limousine service can be arranged upon request. The hotel will charge for the transportation service. If a participant would require such service, kindly indicate your requirement and forward your flight details to the Hotel.

The electric current is 220 volt AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. Many different types of plugs and sockets are in use. Travellers with electric shavers, hair dryers, tape recorders and other appliances should carry a plug adapter kit.
