Symposium
During the 6th ASC General Assembly (ASC 2006), the Symposium Sessions will be held for 4 days in conjunction with other events, since 7 till 10 November, 2006. The ASC 2006 Symposium is entitled “Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation” and will compose of the following scientific themes:
Session 1. (S1) Subduction Zone, Seismology and Tsunamii) 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami ii) Seismotectonic of Subduction Zones and Volcanology iii) Simulation and Modeling iv) Inundation, Run Up Heights and Hazard Maps v) Early Warning Systems vi) Education and Capacity Building Session 2. (S2) Strong Motion Seismology i) Source Physics ii) Strong Motion and Earthquake Hazard and Risk Assessment iii) Methods and Techniques in Strong Motion Hazard Analysis iv) Microzonation Session 3. (S3) Earthquake Forecastsi) Earthquake Precursors ii) Triggered Earthquakes iii) Paleoseismology iv) GPS Measurements v) Seismotectonics vi) New Concepts, Fractals, Chaos, Self-organized Criticality Session 4. (S4) Management/Reduction of Riski) Seismic Risk Mitigation Measures ii) Education on Earthquake Hazard Assessment and Risk Mitigation Session 5. (S5) Observational Seismology
Special Session The 8 October, 2005 Kashmir (Pakistan) Earthquake : Implications for Seismotectonics and hazards assessments in the Hindu-Kush-Himalayan collision zone
The symposium will contain both oral and poster sessions. Scientists as well as experts from concerned institutes, agencies, and organizations in different fields (such as seismologists, geophysicists, geologists, and earthquake engineers, etc.) are welcomed to actively participate and effectively contribute papers to the technical sessions. Interested participants are requested to send their preliminary registration, using the pre-registration form.
There will be a number of Keynote Lecturers, whose names will be announced in the Second Circular. In addition, there will be Special Lectures, selected by the conveners, at the beginning of each oral session.
